OVERBROOK HIGH ART MAGNET PROGRAM

Between 1978 and 1981, I attended the Art Magnet Program at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia led by Leslie Kamison. This was a three-year program that focused on art history, drawing, painting, design, sculpture, and printmaking.

UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS

The Ely senior project was considered the pinnacle of your success as an Illustration major. The topic was "children of the world" which I chose to interpret through the use of figure compositions and oil painting techniques. At the time, Caravaggio's use of chiaroscuro to intensify the drama of his subject matter was a big influence on my work.

FIGURE DRAWING

During my undergraduate studies, figure drawing was considered a fundamental skill for becoming a successful illustrator. I received an award for my drawings during my senior year.
